I'm going on an Adventure!

The One Ring Starter Set is an amazing introduction to The One Ring roleplaying game. It provides a condensed set of rules, a detailed description of the Shire, and many exciting adventures for your inner Hobbit. The included map of the Shire and Eriador, equipment cards, stance cards and custom dice will also come in handy for any adventurers looking to explore further.
The rules booklet provides an overview of the essential rules and a simplified version of combat. Rules for character creation, the full set of combat stances, journeying and council rules are found in the core rulebook, which is a separate product. Nevertheless, the included content is expansive enough to count as a stand-alone game in itself, especially for someone that is more familiar with board games.

Nevertheless, the included content is expansive enough to count as a stand-alone game in itself, especially for someone that is more familiar with board games.
The pre-made adventures and characters allow the group to get more comfortable with roleplaying in a (mostly) safe environment like the Shire. Although, it wouldn't be an adventure without some danger. This area should also be the most familiar location for anyone who is not that familiar with Middle Earth and Tolkien, as it's essentially a romanticised rural Europe. The more fantastical elements are only introduced gradually, much like Tolkien did in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The detailed description of the Shire is also exclusive to the Starter Set.
All in all, the Starter Set is a fantastic introduction to The One Ring. It provides ample resources to fulfil the expectation of someone more familiar with board games, while not overloading budding adventurers with too many rules. The quality of the materials is also great and they will come in handy for any future adventures throughout Eriador, using the core rulebook. This has quickly become my favourite roleplaying game. It's a must-buy for anyone remotely interested in Tolkien's works or roleplaying games in general.
